Cheap Animal Health Certificate Wirral: Your Pet Travel Guide

Planning to travel to Europe with your furry friend ? Since January 1st, 2021, pet passports issued in Great Britain have been replaced by Animal Health Certificates (AHC). Let The Vaccine Vet guide you through the process, ensuring a smooth and stress-free journey for you and your pet.

Animal Health Certificates (AHC)  Explained

Taking your cat, dog, or ferret to Europe ? Here's what you need to know about Animal Health Certificates.

Your pet must:

  • Have a microchip
  • Have received a rabies vaccination at least 21 days before departure
  • Have a valid Animal Health Certificate to travel, issued by an Official Veterinarian (OV)

An AHC is valid for 10 days from the date of issue, allowing you to enter the EU. Remember, the AHC can only be issued once 21 days have passed since the rabies vaccination. Some countries (Malta, Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland, Finland, Norway) also require a tapeworm treatment (dogs only) administered by a vet between 24 and 120 hours before arrival.

With over 4 years of experience, I, at The Vaccine Vet, can expertly guide you through the AHC process in Wirral.

How do I book an appointment for an Animal Health Certificate ?

Booking an Animal Health Certificate is a straightforward process and involves a few important steps:

  1. Plan in Advance
Please ensure your travel is planned ahead of time. At least 21 days must have passed after the rabies vaccination before leaving the country. An Animal Health Certificate cannot be issued before this 21-day period has elapsed.
  2. Confirm Your Travel Route
Your intended travel route and port of entry into Europe must be known in advance, as these details are essential for issuing the certificate correctly
  3. Rabies Vaccination Records
If your pet’s rabies vaccination was not administered by The Vaccine Vet, please contact the veterinary practice that provided it and ask them to forward the full clinical records, including proof of rabies vaccination, to:
    enquiries@thevaccinevet.co.uk
  4. Complete the Booking Form
Please complete the booking form using the link provided above or CLICK HERE

Once the clinical records have been received and the booking form has been submitted, I aim to contact you within 24 hours to arrange a suitable date and time to meet for the Animal Health Certificate appointment

Do I need to bring my pet on the day of the appointment? Where are you based ?

Yes, your pet must be present at the appointment.

For an Animal Health Certificate to be issued, I am required to physically examine your pet on the day. This includes checking your pet’s microchip, confirming their identity, and ensuring they are clinically fit to travel.

Please make sure you bring:

  • Your pet with you

  • Any relevant documentation (if advised in advance)

This examination is a legal requirement and, unfortunately, an Animal Health Certificate cannot be issued without your pet being present.

I am based in Wirral, and I offer several appointment options:

  • Collection point in Wirral (postcode dependent) – available by appointment.

  • Mobile service in Wirral – available every Wednesday between 9:00 am and 11:00 am.

  • Home visits – available subject to availability. Please note that call-out fees apply; exact costs can be found in the price list.

Please feel free to get in touch if you would like help choosing the most suitable option.

Can a friend or relative bring the pet to you for AHC ?

For an Animal Health Certificate to be issued, it is a legal requirement that the pet’s owner, who is also the person travelling with the pet, is present to sign the certificate in person.

If this will not be the case, please let me know in advance, as this may affect whether the Animal Health Certificate can be provided.

Does my pet need a tapeworm treatment before leaving the UK?

Good question! Cats do not require a tapeworm treatment before travel.

For dogs leaving the UK, tapeworm treatment is only required for travel to the following countries:  Ireland, Finland, Norway, and Malta.

The treatment must be administered by a veterinary surgeon and correctly recorded on the Animal Health Certificate. This is a service I do provide and can be arrange at time of the appointment.
